I was born in San Diego, California. When I was six-years-old, our family moved to a small town in southern Missouri. After graduating high school from there, I attended the University of Missouri where I met my future wife, Diana, who is also a teacher. After receiving my degree, I began my teaching career in 1987. During that time, I continued to take additional courses to expand my certification areas. After moving with my wife to Hill City, Kansas, in 1990, we both began teaching at Unified School District 281. In 1995 our daughter, Bethany, was born.
As computer technology began to grow, I decided to earn a Master's in instructional technology at Fort Hays State University, completing it in 2006. Our daughter earned her high school diploma in 2014 from Hill City and is now an English teacher at Chisolm Trail Middle School in Olathe, Kansas.
